Well Map

Churches in the Coventry Diocese have and will probably wish to sponsor water wells and this is to be encouraged. Since this has a double benefit, it provides the much needed clean water throughout the year, but also it underpins and supports the evangelistic activities of the Kaduna diocese who have planted churches in the rural areas.

Wells are dug in April/May which is the end of the dry season. Wells cost about £1000, they are dug in one year, and left open for a further two years to ensure that water can still be obtained. After which they a capped and hand pump installed.

UPDATE FEB 2009:
Jim and Ann Saxton visiting existing wells in January 2009, viewed wells that had been sponsored by other dioceses and had pumps installed. All wells observed were no longer in use, since the pumps had not been maintained and silt etc. had made the pumps non usable. Therefore at a meeting with the Kaduna Well Committee, we decided that all Coventry diocese wells would not have pumpss, but finished off with cap and water collection by bucket. This decision reduces the cost of a well to £500. Therefore with the funds already in Kaduna another 11 wellsl will be dug this digging season. Additionally, we will purchase a portable water pump, this to used at digging time, so enabling wells to be dug at least one ring deeper.

Bore-Holes are used in deeper areas and cost about £3000.
